Description
Warm night of august,I was roller skating in my native town, but had to stop because the ground was covered by millions of those white butterlies, dying.I started to think about their weird life. Short-living butterlies, born in the daylight of a beautiful summer morning, wasting a whole day flying around and playing with sun rays, then at dusk, falling down in the twilight of a street lamp to die on the floor... No wonder about the next day, no wonder about anything, just breathing light, getting drunk on air in a one-day life made of only pleasure.
The making of this painting was much of an experiment. I started with a sketch on paper, that I transfered on canvas using paper masks, filled up the whole canvas using airbrushed acrylic paint (it took me about one week). But later I started to paint over with oil and brushes, and step by step covered almost the whole canvas with oil paint. Touching it up from time to time, it finally took me about 3 years to finish!
This picture is really bad quality, with a lot of ugly reflections that make dark colors seem grey.

The positioning of the characters struggling on the ground with a sense of "what is going on? i'm dying - but what is dying?" in the foreground. brilliant... and the way the perspective lends itself - the further you get away, the happier you are... further away from us/real life? if you can look past the sorrow there's something really beautiful there.
The whole thing has this sense of joy V sorrow - all with an overriding tone of innocence.
There is not a single artwork on this site more deserving of a +5!
