Description

This is the second part of a serial I have attempted to draw some time ago.
It was done with graphite pencils. I've spent quite a long time on this drawing, could not help opening my eyes wide on those details the sharpess possible. A really crazy work in fact. I hope the level of details makes sense somehow (please have a look at the full size version, it would be gratifying for my work!). Anyway too much detail means nothing without atmosphere, but maybe here atmosphere arises from the complexity of the scene?

comme tu le sais cest un de mes prefere de toi (les details, pis ptet cet aspect legerement herotiko-melancolike)

Ow, tree bark! The amount of detail looks like it probably took as long as it is going to take her to pull out all the splinters.
Seriously though, amazing pencil work. Jeesh, and I thought I was a detail monger... You are right though, detail alone means nothing. You also need good composition, which this has. Very well done.

Although her hips and down looks pretty wonky, it's a nice piece, and I'm a sucker for details...

Avatar zancan

Yes right (for the hips)...but it was not obvious to me at the time I made it :|

I saw this on deviant art and loved it. Although something about her straddling that tree makes me cringe. That can't be confortable. Hehehe ^_^

Gorgeous drawing either way. Excellent attention to detail.

Amazing. The details are breath taking....but does this image have any puns or double meanings?

Avatar bigrod

 10/09/02 @178

I'm with Inspirion - the position of that tree branch, and especially the shape of the branch, hell even the way shes holding on to it... a very phallic symbol. Double entendre of sexuality perhaps?
Loving that detail.

Oh my god..that full version is insane. Awesome piece..lovely shading, lighting, tones, everything. Only small thing that kinda bothers me is the elbow which looks strange, but maybe that's just me. The treebark actually looks smooth...(doesn't look like it would give splinters)...

Avatar zancan

 10/09/02 @879

Double meaning, of course ;) ... 'melancholy' is more a pretext than a meaning. At first this drawing use to amaze because of the details, then puzzle with the pose, but very few have seen in the tree a symbol of the male. You right Bigrod the curve of this branch, I have to admit, is intentionaly a phalic symbol... i hope the sexual meaning beneath does not take away the magic and the estheticism of the drawing.

Omg, what is wrong with you people!? with the exception of a few, most of you are talking like this peice is "good" but nothing special. Maybe most people are so used to cg art with filters and do-it-for-you's that they can't appreciate the raw talent shown in traditional art like this. drawing even half as well as this is NOT easy.

Anyway...

Zancan, outstanding work.. peice is one of the best drawings I've ever seen. Besides the evident hyper-detail the lighting is also very acurate. use of soft lines where needed. It's just perfect. Maybe I admire this piece so much because I almost always draw in the same medium. Well, be that it or not, I still must say that this drawing screams of raw talent. Excellent work. +5

Nice, neat and talented, all empty comments. You have great and promising skill with graphite! The image is pleasant looking but it shows too much sexuality. I'm not sure if the wings and horns do the picture itself any good... just thinking... maybe without the wings, but in the same pose.. hmmm. Sorry, I'm just getting a little sick of this american theme of Angels and fairies. Gah.

Excellent quality work nonetheless.

 11/08/02 @963

the piece is great but something about the hips and pelvic section seems to suck under too much and flow back under against the tree trunk. There also seems to be too much of a bow within the hips (between the legs). But im a detail pearson and thats what i noticed first. the whole piece is magnificent; and the detail elsewhere is very beautiful. Great work

Splendid. Graphite is hard to master, it does not leave much space for mistakes. U seem to possess a mastery of the technique. This drawing must have required a lot patience and that is a quality every artist should excell in.

I think this has tons of atmosphere... I love that tree on the fight, and the two surrounding it... I see what they mean about the legs... and the ear... Or maybe my ears are just too big :)... but I understand when you get so zoned in on details, these things aren't obvious. Our drawing instructor always made us quit and back off to look at our work from a distance. I can feel the texture on those trees... I think I'd feel melancholy too. ;) Excellent drawing.

Amazing pencil work on the full version. My only critisism would be that it feels like the bottom of the picture is too high. It's like you ended it there because you ran out of paper, not because the picture cropping works there.

Otherwise a brilliant peice!

I have to agree with what others have said about the oddness of her pelvis. But then I tell myself that she's obviously not human, so perhaps I shouldn't expect her pelvis to look strictly human! :) I love the whole composition of this piece, and the wonderful world you've created around your character. Thank you.

I put a blister on my finger scrolling down to the bottom to say my silly bit, someone once commented about chaffing on one of my pieces, and though funny I have waited for moment to pass it on. today is that lucky day, and thank you so much for your amazing piece to be the victom. I have only that to say cause of jealousy of you fab pencils and hot faires.

Michael,

Yes, I love love love the trees on the right hand side. They are marvelous. And the contrast is absolutely brilliant this time. In one of your other drawings it seem to be missed, or it was just a bad scan, not showing the brilliant contrast as in this one. Great work.
